Strong results for Panthers in Harden

The Gundagai Panthers travelled to Harden on Saturday for round 10 of the South West Slopes Soccer Association (SWSSA) competition. 

The club is now preparing for a big Saturday at Owen Vincent Oval, with the club hosting round 11 of the competition.

Under 5/6s

The Gundagai Panthers under 5/6s Gold this week took on Cootamundra Smash Repairs. 

It was a very good game, with neither team giving away many opportunities. 

Bill Ruskin Roe was a standout for Panthers, with great attack and his usual solid defence. 

Jasper Maconochie and Willy Prout were right amongst the action. 

Lance Crowe again looked dangerous in attack. 

Goal scorers were Toby Nicholls and Gus Hufton and the result was a 2-all Draw. 

Good job Panthers. 

Under 7/8s

What a game! It was an intense match to watch on Saturday in Harden against Cootamundra. 

Gus Hufton was in goals for the first half, with the youngster saving half a dozen opportunities. 

Cooper Willets had a great run from the centre of the field, kicking an unstoppable goal right into the lefthand corner of the net. 

Archie Ferguson followed with another goal in the first half, which a great assist effort from Archie Peterson. 

Cootamundra fired up in the second half and were attacking left, right and centre. 

Will Lenehan saved several opportunities in goal, but the Cootamundra midfield fired and were too strong, kicking two quick goals within five minutes. 

Gus Hufton worked hard all day, with great passing and throw-ins from Hugh Keating. 

The final result was a 2-all draw and it great team effort and a lot of fun was had!

Under 9/10s

The Gundagai Panthers played Harden Bendigo Bank in the last game of the day with limited numbers in each side, meaning there were plenty of open spaces to move the ball around and unlimited goal opportunities for both sides.

Gundagai’s goalie in the first half was Hunter Wickham, and he stopped plenty with the help of defender Emily Ryan, but they could not stop them all with a few getting past.

The Panthers were able to get a goal with good ball passing from Denver Blundell and Harry Peterson. 

In the second half, Hunter Wickham went to the midfield and showed his ball running skills to get past a couple of defenders and score for the Panthers.

Andrew Cole and Bella Barnes kept trying all day in the centre, but Harden were to good winning 7-2.

Under 11/12/13s

The Gundagai Panthers under 11/12/13s took on the Temora Redbacks at Harden on Saturday. 

The Panthers demonstrated persistence and formidable teamwork from the start of the match. 

Harrison Crowe was solid all over the field, showing great attacking and defensive ability. 

Juliet Pearce, Joshua Willets, Ben Mihalic, and Jacob Langfield made strong contributions in defence, and Pepper Maconochie and Riley Hourn both had an excellent game as goalkeeper. 

Strong communication and passing in the midfield from Jack Peterson and Angus Dowell created several opportunities for the team to score which were capitalised on by Craig Bond and Thomas Monte, both scoring two excellent goals. 

Brilliant attacking play and ball control by Charlie Hindmarsh saw him score four superb goals, and Riley Hourn demonstrated persistence in attack and was rewarded with a skilful goal of his own, resulting in a 9-1 victory to the Panthers.
