Twenty years after taking out the inaugural event, Gundagai’s Trish Johnston last month reclaimed the prestigious Mailman Express race.

Coming up against 30 other competitors at the Mt Isa Rodeo, Trish rode her mare EyesaFast n Fancy in the 200m, $6000 sprint.

The race showcases non-professional riders on non-thoroughbred horses, with the horses hailing from rodeo competition stock.

They race against the clock in a one by one affair.

Trish claimed the first ever race back in 2001, in a time of 10.67s – a record time that still stands.

The race is held in conjunction with the big Mount Isa Rodeo and is named to honour legendary all-round cowboy, Wally Mailman.
