In what will be a huge boost for the Gundagai Tigers defence of their 2020 Group 9 Premiership win, it was announced during the week that star player Aisea Taholo has re-signed with the club for the 2021 season.
The news was welcomed but somewhat unexpected after most followers of local rugby league expected Taholo to return to the Queanbeyan Blues for 2021 after the COVID regulated 2020 campaign saw him link with Gundagai.
Co-coach of the Tigers for 2021, Luke Berkrey, was over the moon with the addition of the talented and hard-working player to the squad.
“Extremely pleased, he is going to be huge for us,” said Berkrey.
“Aisea does a lot more work than most people realise, and his decision to re-sign is great news for the club.”
Berkrey went on to say that Taholo will undoubtedly play in the middle for the Tigers in 2021, something that will cause a little bit of a re-shuffle but nothing too major.
In other Tiger news, the return of Troy Barby is something that is being highly anticipated. Barby suffered a lower leg injury back in August of 2020 against the South City Bulls. The injury saw Barby miss the remainder of the season, including the Tigers dramatic and comprehensive grand final win over the Tumut Blues.
Barby brings a lot to the Tigers pack, and his 2020 setback will no doubt motivate him towards a big 2021.
