Tumut turns it on for SIRU gala day

After Tumut hosted a wet and miserable gala day in round two of the Southern Inland Rugby Union (SIRU) junior competition earlier this month, the weather gods thought it would be kind of them to make up for it.

As a result, Sunday’s gala day at The Bull Paddock, which doubled as round three of the SIRU junior competition, was played in picture-perfect rugby conditions.

It was nippy in the morning, with slight fog around, but by the later games, the sun was out but it didn’t get too hot, and there was some great rugby played.

It turned out to be a busy day for the club too, with the Tumut Bullants playing host to Albury, Cootamundra, Leeton, Wagga Wagga and Young.

The Tumut Bullants will be on the quick back-up this Sunday when travelling to Cootamundra to take on teams from Albury, Grenfell, West Wyalong, Young and of course, Cootamundra.

Under 10s

The Bullants Eulonga Quarries Under 10s had a great day out in Tumut on Sunday.

The first game was against Albury and it was their best game of the year.

The team controlled the ball well, with solid defence winning them the game 35-5.

Alfie Carney had a strong game with some strong runs, along with Jesse Markopoulos who has shown keenness and willingness to learn is showing on the field.

In their second game against Leeton, after a lengthy break between games, the team took a little while to warm up against a much bigger team, but were able to come out on top 25-5.

Lachie Morgan led from the front and Cody Vickery had a standout game at 5/8 showing great speed.

Henry Piper was also impressive in the forwards with strong tackling and cleanouts.

The team has shown a huge improvement against some much bigger opposition and all players showed great sportsmanship, as the Bullants had to give Albury and Leeton players in both games and the boys all happily took their turn.
