Undermanned Bulls take on Griffith at home

Bulls skipper TJ Sala is 50/50 to return for Tumut’s must-win match against Griffith at Jarrah Oval on Saturday.

The Tumut Bulls have been cruelled by suspension, injury and illness leading into Saturday’s round 12 Southern Inland Rugby Union match against the Griffith Blacks.

Playing at Jarrah Oval, the Bulls will be missing prop Will Kingwill due to suspension after he received another yellow card during Tumut’s thrilling 27-26 win over Ag College in round 11.

Sam Cava will also have to play it safe against Griffith on Saturday, with the big centre currently on two yellow cards, meaning he faces an automatic week off if he receives another yellow card.

Vincent Wise and Nathan Butt are still out injured, and captain TJ Sala, who didn’t play against Ag College, is 50/50 to return.

Ray McDonald can’t play due to work commitments either, meaning at least four regular first grade players are out of action.

Making matters worse, fringe first-graders are also out of contention for selection, with Travis Walmsley ill, while Will McLennan-Dye is out of the rest of the season and Chris Pianelli is out this weekend with sore ribs.

These omissions come at the worst possible time for the Ray Wells-led Bulls, who need to beat Griffith on Saturday in order to keep their SIRU finals hopes alive.

The Blacks are expected to travel with a strong team, with the third-place Griffith only trailing the second-placed Waratahs by two competition points.

In the only other game of SIRU first-grade rugby set to be played on Saturday, Waratahs host the Albury-Wodonga Thunder at Conolly Park.

At Jarrah Oval, there are two games to be played on Saturday, with the Bulls second grade outfit playing first against the Griffith Blacks.
